We are pleased to announce the final scheduled matches for the spring sevens season. First up, Yale will play the University of Hartford on March 30th in New Haven. This will be the first time in many years that these two teams have played each other. The following weekend, April 6th, Yale will host Fairfield University, which also doubles up as the Alumni Weekend Celebration. On April 13th, the team travels to Harvard for the 2019 Ivy Sevens Championship. The season concludes with a Friday night match-up with friendly rivals, Southern Connecticut State University. This final game will allow the team to thank our outgoing seniors for their contribution to Yale Rugby.
Coach Craig, when discussing the sevens schedule, commented, “This is an exciting spring for the team. Three of the four match-ups are against Connecticut teams. The spring is a great time to build connections and play against local universities and I cannot wait to see how we fair against three great programs.” Commenting on the Ivy Sevens Championship, “It is always special playing against Ivy opponents. In the fifteens format, you have Dartmouth who are the NCAA National Champions, Harvard, the Ivy League champions and Brown, a formidable NCAA team. These strengths are sure to carry over into their sevens teams as well. Then you add into the mix the remaining club teams, that are all extremely competitive, it makes the championship a tough tournament. We would not want it any other way!”
The team is currently undergoing an intensive winter training schedule, involving skill development and strength and conditioning, lead by the Yale varsity strength coaches.
